Patroness of the elderly, infirmed people, and the Miraculous Medal
After the death of her mother, St. Catherine claimed the Blessed Virgin Mary as her mother. She was a member of the Daughters of Charity. In 1830, St. Catherine was awoken from her sleep and felt called to go to the chapel. Mary appeared to her and stated that she would be charged with a mission and the graces to complete it. Later that year, the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Catherine a second time, during this visit Mary showed herself in an oval frame, standing with rays of light coming from her hands towards a globe with the words “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who has recourse to thee.” She was encouraged to place this image on a medal. Approximately 60 years after her death, it was discovered that her body was incorrupt.
